Governor Celebrates Student Financial Aid Day

AICUM's annual Student Financial Aid Day at the Massachusetts State House was a huge success! More than 200 participants representing more than two dozen schools came out in force on Feb. 26 to ask legislators for their continued support of student financial aid. Gov. Deval Patrick addressed the crowd, saying: "Putting a college education in reach of all of our students grows jobs and unlocks economic opportunity."

AICUM Symposium 2012

More than 100 AICUM members representing 35 institutions gathered at the College of the Holy Cross to participate in AICUM’s annual symposium, a day of higher ed trends and best practice presentations by AICUM’s affiliate members. This year's event focused on New Challenges for a Changing Economy and included talks on building codes, enrollment analytics, and employment law.

AICUM Dinner Success

AICUM's annual dinner was another smash success, with more than 400 people packing a Seaport Hotel ballroom to celebrate the vital contributions of the independent colleges and universities in Massachusetts. The evening honored U.S. Representative Michael E. Capuano and paid special tribute to innovation and the life sciences and their importance to the economy of the Commonwealth.

Advancing Job Creation Now

AICUM President Richard Doherty offers his views in support of An Act to Strengthen Research and Innovation in the Commonwealth, a bill that would invest $100 million in a matching grant fund that would be used to leverage more than $300 million in additional funding from private sources. "This matching grant fund is one way to help Massachusetts help itself," Doherty says. "The fund would help drive our competitive advantage in a knowledge-based economy – the brainpower being harnessed by our world-renowned public and private colleges and universities."
